Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) is responsible for regulating and improving safety and health in the state’s resources industries including coal mines, mineral mines and quarries, explosives and petroleum and gas.

The Mineral Mines and Quarries (MMQ) Inspectorate monitors sites in the mineral, mining, and quarrying industry to ensure they operates at an acceptable level of risk across the underground metal / hard rock mines in Queensland.   We work with industry operators to improve health and safety outcomes through data driven risk-based decision-making principles.

As an inspector you have autonomy to plan each day offering variety working across small and large underground/open cut operations performing inspections and collaborating with industry.

Key Accountabilities

  • Liaise with employers, workers, unions, industry organisations and government agencies to develop and maintain effective working relationships that lead to improved safety and health outcomes.
  • Monitor, audit and inspect a complex range of activities in accordance with the regional program and initiate corrective measures where appropriate
  • Fulfil the statutory role of an Inspector of Mines in accordance with requirements of the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 subject to the directions and instructions of the Regional Inspector.
  • Investigate reported breaches of safety and health legislation, accidents, incidents and complaints about the operation of metalliferous mines and quarries or coal mines, and where necessary require remedial action to be undertaken to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain awareness of all aspects of developments in the mining and quarrying industries including operating methods, technology, technology transfer, equipment, and products, particularly as they impact upon health and safety.

About You

  • Mining Engineer / Geotechnical Engineer
  • Demonstrated experience in mining (Underground Metal/Hard Rock)
  • Highly developed communication, negotiation, influencing, analytical, problem resolution, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
